Exploring internal communications, employee engagement and social media

About me

29793435680_bb924b90cf_oGraduating with a Marketing degree, I started a career in communications in local government before specialising in media relations at BAE Systems. Supporting events and regional press across the divisional UK sites, the role focussed on the local and trade media. With some time focussed on PR, I moved to specialise in internal communication at Thomson Local before gaining some agency experience at theblueballroom communications agency.

Returning in-house in 2010, I joined SSP UK as their internal communications manager looking after 10,000 employees across over 700 outlets. After a few years I took over the internal communications for the wider Group and in October 2014 I was promoted to Group Head of Communications to manage all internal and external communication across the 31 countries and 30,000 people. After learning a lot, especially in the financial PR space it was time for something new and in June 2016 I joined Perrigo in the UK and Ireland as their Communications Director ā€“ a brand new role for them.

In September 2012 I co-founded The IC Crowd on Twitter (@theiccrowd) to help connect internal communicators across the globe. I have been involved with CIPR since 2012 when I joined the CIPR Inside Committee. In 2013 I took on the role of treasurer and went on to hold the position of Chair for 2014 and 2015 (I am now the secretary for the group) I have sat on the CIPR Council for the past 2 years and I also sit on the Professional Development and Membership Committee ā€“ helping shape the development and membership offer for CIPR.
