Starting out in internal communications is never easy, and sadly still not a path many people think about after doing a degree or college course. So I thought it might be a good idea to pull some resources together to help those who might want to get started:
Suggested reading based on the need to understand communication, people and business
If you’re on Twitter, here is a list of suggested list of people to follow
If you’re on Twitter you might also want to join The IC Crowd which I started with fellow internal comms pros Dana Leeson and Rachel Miller in 2012.
If you’re just getting started then check out the Institute of Internal Communications (IOIC) Foundation Diploma of Proficiency in Internal Communications where you have to demonstrate practical knowledge, skills and direct experience.
There are also qualifications available from CIPR so make sure you check out everything they have on offer. I’m doing the CIPR diploma in 2013 so will be blogging progress here.
Melcrum offer a variety of courses for all levels in internal communications. Though not accredited, some great workshops here to help you on the way to learning all the skills for internal communications.
